Frances Carlisle, Director, Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS)
She has worked at the Latin American Womens Rights Service since 2003, a community development organisation empowering Latin American migrant women with tools and information to achieve personal and social change. She coordinated a programme supporting women working in cleaning and hospitality into better paid employment, through work experience and skills development, before becoming Director in 2007. She has spent two years living & working in Latin America, has an MSc in Gender and Development, and has published on migrant women and labour in Oxfam’s Gender and Development journal. Frances has most recently been involved in a large research project which LAWRS and Trust for London co-commissioned, produced by Dr Cathy McIlwaine from Queen Mary University into the Latin American community.
