Abril Saldaña was recently awarded a PhD in sociology at the University of Manchester. Her thesis is entitled Women and Paid Domestic work in Mexico: Food, Sexuality and Motherhood which was supervised by Prof Colette Fagan and Dr Bridget Byrne. She worked for six years as a social researcher in the UK. In 2005 worked at the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico before commencing her doctoral studies in 2007. At the moment, she is working as an independent researcher and is a columnist for a regional newspaper (zonafranca.com.mx). Her research interests are: women and feminization of labour; mestizaje and racism in Mexico, the sociology of food, maternity and sexuality.

Abril Saldaña es doctora en sociología por la Universidad de Manchester en el Reino Unido. Tiene además una maestría en Relaciones Internacionales por la Universidad de Warwick, también en el Reino Unido. Trabajó seis años como investigadora asociada a diversas universidades británicas en proyectos sociales tales como: la Universidad de Central England y la Universidad de Coventry. En México trabajó para el Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública como investigadora para después iniciar sus estudios de doctorado en el 2007. Actualmente es investigadora independiente y es columnista de zonafranca.com.mx. Sus temas de especialización son: mujeres y trabajo doméstico; género; mestizaje y racismo en México; sociología de la comida; maternidad y sexualidad.
